This was my first time ordering from this pizzeria and it will likely be my last. I ordered a nearly eight dollar chicken cutlet hero, which was mostly lettuce. To make matters worse, the skimpy chicken pieces were cold (I asked that it be warmed), dry, and tasteless. I highly doubt the chicken was made today. Furthermore, the cheese was unmelted. On a high note, the cannoli was delicious, as a $4.95 cannoli should be. One star just for the cannoli.

Great pizza, specifically the buffalo slice. Spicy -- just missing my preference of a dash of blue cheese. However tons of chicken, unlike some places where you can still see the crust underneath.. However, typical of this area -- the food is pricey. Most likely due to the real estate costs.

The food here is interesting and some of it's delicious. The plain cheese pizza is average. The gourmet slices are right on point though you have to understand if you get them you are not coming for Pizza. For example, the barbecue chicken slices have no tomato sauce nor cheese. I really like it and wouldn't ask them to change anything but it is BBQ chicken on a pizza dough bed. My personal fav is the General Tso's Shrimp pizza. The shrimps are big and the sauce is authentically General Tso. What's more, this slice has cheese as well. At the end of the day, there is one thing really holding this place back from greatness and that is the space. It is not just small but inarguably the worst pizzeria space I've ever been to. The tables are so close together that you are literally eating with the people at the table adjacent to you. A number of yelpers have bemoaned the space and said that they try to only get take out. The problem with that is that this isn't the kind of place from where you want to order a whole pie and take it home in a box. I'm not going to order an entire pie of Barbecue Chicken or General Tso's Shrimp Pizza. The reason is that they have about 15 specialty slices and everyone likes something different. I love a couple of them but getting the family to agree on one type is impossible. Boy how I would love it if they had more size in the restaurant. They have such a great selection.

Don't really get what the hype is about this place but the pizza is definitely good. Great pene al a vodka slice and prices reasonably for gourmet pizza.

I randomly went here for a quick bite today as I was driving by and was in the mood for pizza. The place is located in a neighborhood where there aren't much food options. However, the food here is good! This pizzeria offered so many different options of specialty pizzas, calzones, rolls & regular pizza. I have never been to a pizzeria that had so many unique options. I ate the Thai chili shrimp pizza; it was sooooooo good! It was thin crusted with a glaze of Thai chili paste topped with fresh cooked well seasoned shrimp. I like cold pizza so I didn't have it warmed up. However, if it was hot I can only imagine it would've tasted even better. The service here was okay just average. When I went in there was no one there so I was asked if I wanted help, I said yes and ordered. The guy took my order and I paid then sat and ate. There was limited interaction but I don't think that means they don't have good service I think that just means I was keeping to myself. The pizzeria was very Clean. The whole premises was well laid out and clean. Even behind the counter you can look in the kitchen and see that everything is well organized and very clean. As I was sitting a family came in and I noticed the guy working behind the counter was very nice to the kids and their dad I thought that was great. There was a parking lot shared with the dunkin donuts next door, I got a spot right in front so I had no complaints. I had good service, good food & an over all good experience. I would definitely go back here and recommend others to try this place. I hope to go back soon and have more interactions so I can accurately judge the service but on terms of food and quality they definitely get a grade A review. It was delicious & awesome!

I've been eating here for quite some time and even though I'm not really in the area anymore I still try to go out of my way to eat at Joanne's. Although I find their regular slices average at best, I've never been dissatisfied with their gourmet slices. In particular, I find that the ziti slices are quite filling with tons of sauce & ricotta cheese. My two absolute favorites are the penne a la vodka slices, which I have found to be the best around, and the honey Dijon, which I have never seen at any other pizza spots. The only reason why four stars & not five is due to the space. Joanne's has been at this location as long as I can remember and they can definitely benefit from a larger dining/ordering space. Just as some other reviewers have said, you are basically sitting elbow to elbow with the person next to you. In addition, ordering something and trying to get out is almost like doing a choreographed dance - you may need to spin around someone all the while swinging a box up and over someone. Matter a fact, when I was there last Saturday a gentlemen almost capsized his pizza boxes just trying to get out. Don't be fooled - although i dread the thought of possibly having to eat in my car, I will still always stop by for some specialty slices at Joanne's.

My mother and i saw a worker drop a slice and put it back on the shelf as if nothing was wrong. We were sitting in the corner so the worker probably thought we didnt see it but we did. Never going back here after that incident. If youre going to sell a slice for 4.40 this is not acceptable. This place doesnt even deserve a star. Price should go downhill like how the food did.

UPDATE: The manager of Joanne's messaged me and told me how sorry he was about the hair incident! Can you say PROFESSIONALISM? Nothing but love for this place. The buffalo slices are absolutely ADDICTIVE! My mouth is literally watering just thinking about it. FYI the manager messaged me immediately after i left my initial review, i just never checked my inbox.

Last night I gave these guys a second chance. I got a honey dijon slice. The crust was one of the worst thing I ever have eating. Being the son of a baker I know when bread is baked fresh. I can tell you that this crust couldn't have been baked in the last 48 hours. It was awful and a waste of $4.40.

  • Matthew W.

Best pizza in the area and you can choose among three types (actually 4 types) of crusts -- sesame seeds, romano, onion or plain. Great selection of exotic pizza too including, my favorite, rigatoni ala vodka pizza.

  • Ari P.

The pizza is pretty good. I've eaten the regular personal pie for the each week for the past six weeks, and it was consistent, just a little bit salty, and all the extra cheese gave me a alot of agita. Better than Attilio's, but not Umberto's.

  • Cj S.

Good pizza .kinda soggy but the do have a large variety of pizza slice .little on the expensive side but all in all good solid lunch spot

  • Frank R.

Joannes is a great pizzeria with fine quality pizza. You pay for what you get which is plenty amounts of chicken on their pizza. If you have a sweet tooth try the honey dijon slice. Also the sauce on their wings are bomb!!! I cant believe the reviews on here shame on them for trying to ruin a business which obviously flourishes since they've been in the pizza biz for years!!!

  • Yariv A.

Great Pizza, tons of variety as far as the different types os slices go. This place is more for take out then eat in, because of it's small size, but I highly recommend it for take out and delivery. Definitely the best slice in town!

    (4)
  • Christopher S.

Excellent pizza. They have a wide variety of options which is nice. I love the buffalo slice and the barbecue slice. The grilled chicken Caesar salad wrap is also delicious. Prices are fair and the service is good. Overall a great place to eat!

  • Riccardo S.

The nurses of the St. Francis ICU spoke very highly of this place, and so during one of my many days of staying there, I decided to give their free delivery to the hospital a try. I was very curious as to what their specialty slices were like, so I proceeded to order one lasagna slice, one bacon cheeseburger slice, and a honey dijon slice (dessert!). Wow...the lasagna slice was great with the little flowers of ricotta placed on top of a great ground meat-covered pie. The honey dijon was interesting and very sweet, but the chicken was quite dry. The bacon cheeseburger slice though - extraordinary. Ground meat again, but with American cheese melted on top, and with inch-long strips of bacon scattered about on top. Wow! Loved it so much that the next day I ordered pizza for all the nurses in the ICU to thank them for everything, and the grandma pies were a huge hit. I availed myself of the veal cutlet parmigiana sandwich, which will good, doesn't hold a candle to the pizza. Delivery was very fast, and very friendly. Oh - and one other recommendation! Joanne's participates in the Skymiles Dining program, so when you order and pay via credit card, you can get up to 5 Delta Skymiles per every dollar you spend. Bonus!

  • Robert S.

This is the best pizza place I've ever been to. However, you have to know what you are in for and that is gourmet pizza! The best slice is honey dijon, while the clam chowder and general tso's are also amazing. The service is a bit rough, they go for the tough-guy act. Also, the place is tiny, so hard to eat on location. However, you come for the pizza and will leave with such a good taste in your mouth that you learn to forgive the service and high prices!

I will never return. Stopped by with the family tonight. As I'm ordering I'm watching the guy behind the counter wipe his nose with his hand and then proceed to place that same bare hand on the chicken parm roll I ordered, pick it up and begin to put it in the oven. He also handled two others with that bare hand whilst choosing the one to give me. When I complained he looked at me like I was crazy. That makes me think they have very lax food safety training, if any at all. I loved this place but I'm not interested in hepatitis. Needless to say, We left without any food. I've eaten here many many times before and have loved it. I just can't anymore.

  • Hannah C.

i really can't say much about this place because every time i go, i always ask myself why i didn't go to ginos instead. however, it's close to work and super fast. i guess this place will work if you're on the go and looking for a slice to eat really quickly.

  • Brian C.

The pizza here is really good and the customer service provided by Rino and Louis were above par. I ordered 4 whole pies and a dozen garlic knots and was very pleased with the service, prompt service and quality of the food. Would highly recommend.

This is the first time ever i had something bad to say about Joannes since I've been coming here since 1999. Pizza just didn't taste right or even look okay. Buffalo slice tasted out of a bad jar of sauce and BBQ looked a mess and want cooked well enough. Help them get it right for my next visit please

  • Laura C.

Wowwwwwwwww. Can't tell you enough how great this pizza is. Try it. Just go. You'll be in pizza heaven. I promise. So many choices. You will leave with a very happy tummy.

So I stop by Joannes once or twice for a slice pizza. It was good better than some others local to me I grabbed a menu last time I was there so I decided to order pizza tonight. I called them at 5:25. 7:20 the delivery guy gets to my door. I refused the order. On the phone when I placed the order they told me it would be 45 minutes to 1 hour I believe this to be unacceptable and will not patronize their business again.

  • Sarah S.

Best buffalo slice ever. That's the only slice I get!!! Used to be addicted to it. It's so good!!! I get it delivered sometimes too. Owner is very nice

I went to this place again and have to admit its much better. They really fixed their food. The pizza was really good. I am glad they fixed it.

We were on our way to Skinny Pizza when we passed Joanne's Gourmet Pizza or JG pizza as that's what I saw from the road. I decided to whip out my phone to see what YELP thought---and saw the picture of the Penne a la Vodka slice and exclaimed, "I WANT THAT!" And so we went! As I read in a review, yeah, don't go for the ambiance. Walk up to the counter and there are sandwich boards with the menu on them. I wound up sitting on a cushion with a hole in it, making me sit lower than I should've been to reach the table. The star here is the pizza!!! Such variety, I don't remember seeing plain; the closest would've been whole wheat, Grandma or Grandpa and I would've tried them but OH MY GAWWWWWD! The penne slice is like a bowl of pasta with a slice of bread--you won't be hungry nor will you be able to eat another slice! Make sure you get a fork though--they're on the counter and if it's busy, there may well be other hungry JG customers blocking them. ;) My husband had a barbeque chicken and a thai shrimp slice. By the time he got to the second of the two, he just ate the toppings off and forewent the bread; he was stuffed. There doesn't appear to be a restroom for patrons and this is a Pepsi only establishment. As a loyal Diet Coke drinker, it was a tough one to swallow, but that slice was soooo worth it!

Solid New York (ish) pizza out on the Island. This is our go-to place (or at least for the grandparents) since they deliver as well. We ended up ordering a barbecue chicken pizza, garlic bread, some salads, and a chicken parm. The pizza looked quite disgusting, with barbecue sauce all over; however, it was actually pretty good. The crust is medium-thin with heavy amount of toppings and loads of barbecue sauce. It was a good flavored sauce, and it wasn't too overpowering. The salads were pretty average, nothing too special about them. The garlic bread was cold and soft, ew. We didn't even make it to the chicken parm, but it looked pretty good. The service has consistently been good. The delivery times haven't been bad, and everything is in the bag. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for the pizza.

  • Peter L.

I have family in the area, so I'm in the area with some frequency. I decided to stop by one day, and now it has become my go to pizzeria when I'm in town. I typically stick to pepperoni on my pizza, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't get the buffalo, bbq, or my personal favorite, the bacon chicken ranch pizza. I've been to other pizzarias in the area and I'm puzzled by the complaints about the prices of the chicken slices as they are comparable throughout the north shore L.I. region. This review is for the pizza only as I have not tried the other items on menu as I'm a "once I find what I like, I tend not to stray" kind of guy.

I had the Vegetable Roll... it was delicious... Had Broccoli, Spinach, ricotta, and mozzarella... amazing

  • Sunny B.

Not a fan of the Buffalo Slice. Too over-loaded with sauce, no longer feels like you eating pizza.

    (3)
  • Jennifer M.

I am not a picky eater by any means, but this buffalo chicken slice was atrotious. It had no cheese on it whatsoever and was drowned in a very non-tasty buffalo sauce. I also love spicy, but this is to the point where your mouth is still tingling an hour later. It was so gross, I ordered a veggie slice instead. That was just as disgusting. It was just a bunch of random pieces of vegetables thrown on pizza crust. There was no cheese or sauce! The grandma slice was blah, their sauce is nothing special. There is also no bathroom for customers.

I thought Joanne's was OK. This is my second time there and both times I've ordered the Chicago style pizza. My husband is into there penne vodka pizza. The place is small and next to a Dunkin Donuts. My only beef with this place is the people that bring their unruly kids. Since the place is small...having a handful of 4 year olds can ruin your experience. There is a decent amount of traffic out front that they can play in.

    (3)
  • J H.

I love the specialty pizzas here, the buffalo chicken slice is spicy but tastes great and so does the bbq chicken. Pricing is ok but each slice fills you up.

    (4)
  • Haren H.

I really think everyone has been under-rating JG Pizza. I haven't tried the sandwiches or entrees BUT the pizza is great! If you like thin crust, this is the place for you. My husband is a HUGE critic of food, maybe because he has lived in Manhattan for so many years. But even he says the pizza is great. We moved to Roslyn a year ago and only order from this place.

    (5)
  • Beatrice C.

Craving pizza? You must try this place but bare in mind if you are craving a reg slice then go somewhere else. Come here with an open mind an empty stomach bc the pizza are all specialty slices. My all time favorite is the shrimp scampi slice, you'd think the flavors wouldn't work together but it's out of this world! Their grandpa slice is also yummy, its my #2 favorite slice. Its like a grandma but instead of marinara sauce its vodka sauce. When I worked around this neighborhood this was one of my usual lunch spots. Must try.

    (5)
  • Swirly C.

We went here since we were craving pizza and we were in the area. While it was a little pricey $13 for 2 slices and 2 drinks the pizza was really good. We had the Penne Ala vodka slice and a "General Tso shrimp" slice. The sauces were really good but I could have used cheese on the General Tso slice.. Definitely worth a try and we will try to go back if we are in the area.

    (5)
  • J D.

They have tons of gourmet pizza's, and the quality is excellent. Only downfall is the place is small, so when it gets packed for lunch time you usually get it to go...

    (4)
  • Peter L.

One of my favorite pizza places in this area. As others have said the specialty pizzas are really good. Baked ziti, buffalo chicken vodka, bbq chicken, and others are very tasty. Place is very small with only a few seats, but as far as pizza goes it is definitely worth a try. Haven't tried anything other than the pizza so my review is focused on that. I am a bit out of their delivery range, which is really too bad (or maybe that's a good thing, I would be ordering it all the time if I could).

    (4)
  • Gina L.

I agree with Dennis M. This pizza is HORRIBLE! The only way I would say it was passable is if it was in a state OTHER then NY. With all the great pizza around you have to be cuckoo to go here. Oh yeah, and their prices are ridiculous

  • Gary N.

This is one of my favorite pizza places on LI. Their Buffalo Chicken slice is OUTSTANDING!!! It is the slice by which all other Buffalo Chicken pizza slices are judged !! If your wondering why people are complaining about the price for a slice, the reason the price is a little more than the average pizza shop is because of the amount of "stuff" on the slice. The chicken slices (Buffalo, Marsala, Honey Dijon, Buffalo, etc.) are LOADED with chicken!!! You cannot find a bare spot on the slice where there is not a piece of chicken! Go to any other pizza place on LI and you won't get half as much chicken on a slice. And each different variety of pizza is amazing! The marsala is delicious. The honey dijon chicken is amazing. And the buffalo slice is unbelievable. Most pizza shops are afraid to make a buffalo slice too hot. Joanne's is not afraid! It's supposed to be spicy hot! It's buffalo chicken for crying out loud!! You want mild? Get the BBQ slice! You want buffalo? This is the slice to get. Delicious flavor, LOTS of chicken, Nice and spicy, Unreal! And with all that chicken, this slice is a meal! Hands-down, this is the best shop on LI for Buffalo Chicken Pizza!

    (4)
  • Christopher S.

Small pizza place but they have alot of variety in the case. It looks like it shares a space with the dunkin donuts and the ambiance isnt great but i thought the pizza wasn't bad.

    (3)
  • Jaby J.

The pizza is decent, but it seems to me that they're a bit more expensive than the average pizza joint. Perhaps it's because of the word "gourmet" in the name. With the availability of pizza on Long Island, especially in the Roslyn/Pt. Washington area, Joanne's would not be my first choice.

  • T. C.

I love Joannes Pizza , very good service, clean restaurant , prices are fair

    (5)
  • Kenny K.

Went there during lunch on a weekday. The service and wait was about what I would except for lunch time. But the pizza is very very average and very overpriced. 2 specialty slices cost me pretty much $10 and there was absolutely nothing about the taste that justified that price. Save your money and time and go somewhere else.

  • Jen H.

I just had two garlic knots from this place and thought to myself that I have to give this place a 5 star review on Yelp because I think these are the best I've ever tasted. However, I am kinda grossed out now after reading J S.'s review regarding the rat!!...which is why I'm giving it two stars. Does anyone know if they fixed the rat problem and if the place was inspected?

  • Minna S.

I used to come here a lot when I was in high school (back in the early 2000s). During that time, I would always see one or both of the brothers who owned the pizzeria behind the counter, and the quality of the food/service was at least 4 out of 5 stars. I'm pretty sure that during this time, Joanne's was rated "Best of LI." Coming back recently, though, I cannot say the same. In the past year, I've only gone to Joanne's twice, maybe 3 times. Each time I return, I think to myself "why haven't I been back, this place used to be great"! But then I take a bite of the pizza and I remember that the quality isn't as great as it used to be. The pasta sauce (which is heavily used on the baked ziti pizza) tastes right out of the can, like Ragu or some other cheap sauce, and the pizza was soggy. For $4 a slice (a gourmet slice that is), I at least expect better quality.

use to come there all the time decided to come by on good friday bought a couple of slices wow what a difference pizza was horrible couldnt eat it left it on counter my husband didnt eat it and then he gave it to my cat not my cat didnt even like it whats going on u have all young kids there what do they no has it gotten to your head and moved on if u want to keep your pizzeria show some interest by beinging there sorry for the rating pizza was dry burnt horrible

OMG i love this place! Their pizza is amazing--kind of a crowded and dismal area if you are eating in but the food makes up for it It pisses me off that they only take cash but not enough to deduct a star so you know the pizza is good!

    (5)
  • Emily O.

I am surprised there are so few reviews of this place on Yelp. When I went to high school in Great Neck, it was the place to go for great pizza. They are famous for their BBQ'd chicken pizza. Amazing, slightly spicy marinade and more tender chicken than I normally find on pizza.

    (4)
  • Kamille C.

Lots of varieties of pizza. Usually get regular slices and they're always good. Service can be slow when they're busy but they're always really nice.

    (3)
  • Chris S.

the dough they use is so dry and thin , it is like eating pizza on a cracker. me no likes. We tried like 5 different slices and they were all the same. Specialty slices were just not special.

    (1)
  • Jessica W.

Everything's overpriced, everything here sucks. Save the trip and your money, don't go to Joanne's.

    (1)
  • Rand R.

Great pizza, especially the buffalo chicken. It is the standard that other pizza places try to copy and surpass. The drawback? Parking is terrible and this is not a place you really want to eat at since there are barely any tables and they are very small - takeout is the only way to go

    (4)
  • Stu H.

I'm usually overwhelmed when a menu has so many options that sound delightful, and in such circumstances I sometimes panic. Joanne's menu screams adventure, but somehow at the same time soothingly whispers in my ear sweet nothings about their different specialty pizzas; bacon cheeseburger, shrimp parmigiana, taco, baked clam, penne ala vodka, lasagna, honey dijon chicken, and many more. I remain surprisingly calm, yet very aroused - a perfect balance when it comes time to eat. There may be other pizzerias out that the can claim similar bold creations, but that does not diminish what Joanne's has accomplished in any way. The only knock I can find is that they have something called a low carb pizza. That's like drinking light beer. Why bother to drink it, why bother to eat it, why bother to live? Please, have some self-respect.

Im pretty shocked by some of the reviews of Joannes, I've been eating this pizza since i was a little kid. the bbq chicken pizza is amazing and by far my favorite one. SO GOOD!
